I’m “Waiting on the LORD”
I am sure you have heard this before, “I am just waiting on the LORD.” You may have even said it. I certainly have. It would be interesting to hear what the LORD would say in response to our statement. He might say, “I’m waiting on you.”
“You are waiting on me; what are you waiting for me to do?” I would reply.
He would say, “I am not waiting for you to ‘do’ anything. I am waiting for you to ‘be.‘ Remember, I made you as a human ‘being,’ not as a human ‘doing.’ It’s not that I want you to do anything, but I want you to be.”
For men especially, it is easier to “do” than “be.” Give me a project, give me a task, tell me the parameters, show me what the outcome should look like, and then leave me alone. “I can do it myself.” Yet the LORD is more interested in “who I am” than in “what I have done.” The LORD is more interested in my heart than my “calling.”
David tells us in the Psalms that the LORD desires a broken spirit and a contrite heart. He doesn’t say he wants us to “act” like we have a broken spirit and a contrite heart. He desires a change in our hearts and spirit (being) more than sacrifices and offerings (doings). An offering from one who does not have this broken spirit and contrite heart is being offered by one who is worried about “doing” and not about “being.” Yeshua talked often about these people. Hypocrites are what He often called them. They were the ones that had the cup cleaned on the outside but dirty on the inside. The ones who require obedience to the commandments yet break them themselves.
Now, don’t get into your mind that all the LORD desires for us to do is to sit cross-legged and contemplate our “being.” If we truly have a right heart, we cannot help but “do” those things that He desires of us, And when our doing comes out of our being, we can operate out of His strength and not out of our own.
During those times of our life when we are tired and frustrated with ourselves and with others, check to see in whose strength we are operating. Are you operating out of your being or out of your doing?
